There is unfortunately much controversy about what high blood pressure is. Numbers that represent systolic pressure and diastolic pressure are measured to come up with blood pressure. Most experts agree that if your blood pressure is 140/90 or above you have hypertension, but there is some disagreement about what lower numbers mean. Up until recently, if your blood pressure was, for example, 130/85 this would have been called normal. Now a reading of 120/80 or below is normal and many experts would call the previous reading as prehypertension. Be sure, however, that if your blood pressure readings go over 120/80 you should monitor your diet and exercise habits with the help of your doctor. In some cases, high blood pressure causes the symptoms of nausea and vomiting. Be sure and talk to your doctor, because these are symptoms of many other problems as well.

Prompt medical attention is required for those with hypertension experiencing bouts of nausea and vomiting. While still serious, blood pressure slightly above normal, will probably not produce these symptoms. Most research shows that symptoms of high blood pressure don't usually show up until the blood pressure is extremely high.

If you don't take care of your high blood pressure, it could turn into another condition called extremely high blood pressure, or malignant hypertension. Whereas you may not have noticeable symptoms when your blood pressure is only slightly high, with malignant hypertension, you are likely to experience disturbing symptoms, which may include nausea, vomiting, pain around the eyes or dizziness. Sometimes you might even pass out. Malignant hypertension can come on suddenly but more commonly it develops slowly over time and is the result of someone failing to control their high blood pressure when it was easy to do. If you start to display symptoms of malignant hypertension go to the doctor immediately. High blood pressure can have a lot of symptoms but many people do not know they have it until they go in for a checkup or to get something else looked at.
It's possible to get your blood pressure checked in most pharmacies but if you want your reading to be accurate you'll have to check it a few different times. If you have any of the symptoms of high blood pressure we've been looking at, or if you have any risk factors that make you a likely candidate for this problem, make sure you visit your doctor frequently to have your blood pressure checked.
